THE chance to pick up the skills of both boxing and kickboxing is being offered by a two time World Kickboxing champion.

Sean Bowman is holding classes in both disciplines with his renamed club Pure Class, which is based at the RS Fitness gym in Newlyn.

Sean, who has been involved in boxing for more than 15 years, has been successfully coaching boxing for nearly a year but is now branching out to include kickboxing.

"Kickboxing and boxing are great sports and complement each other well," says Sean.

Positive influence

"I love teaching the students and helping develop their skills and fitness – both sports can give individuals real focus and provide a positive influence, particularly within young people.

"The boxing classes are very friendly and have a real buzz about them; we hope to have the same atmosphere in the kickboxing classes."

As a boxer, Sean reached the semi-finals of the Novice Championships held at the prestige Crystal Palace Olympic training grounds before switching to kickboxing four years ago.

Since then he has won a British title, K1 Irish Anglo Title, a European title and two world titles. He is currently ranked Number One in Britain in two weight divisions and has never lost a single kickboxing bout in his career.

Sean will be helped by kickboxers, Mandy Woolcock and Mike Nudd, who is ranked Number One in Britain in his weight division and holds a Southern Area title.

Pure Class, which is a member of the World White Collar Boxing Council which regulates the sport, welcomes both male and female students and Sean says, you can join for a variety of reasons – 'to fight, to train for fitness or self defence, or simply for the social benefits'.

"It's a great way to keep fit and healthy and provides an excellent social outlet for people of all ages," he adds.

Using RS Fitness as a base, members will also have access to the fully equipped gym.

The new classes run from 7.30pm to 8.30pm every Thursday. Other sessions available are on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7.45pm to 9.15pm while children's classes run on Saturday mornings from 11am-12.30pm.

Anyone interested in joining any of the classes can contact Sean on 07772 489576.
