Two seagulls shot dead in Penzance

Comments (2)

TWO seagulls were shot dead by someone with an air rifle in the centre of Penzance on Monday evening.

The seagulls are believed to have been shot while perching on a roof at Voundervour Lane, connecting Chapel and Queen streets, one of them ending up impaled on a fence spike.

The shootings follow on from similar similar incidents in the same area of Penzance in April.

Then around a dozen herring gulls, jackdaws and pigeons were shot and killed in the space of a few weeks.

PC Ali Harvey, Penzance’s neighbourhood team manager, said: “Quite apart from the alarm and distress this has caused to residents in the area, I would like to remind whoever did this that he or she is committing two offences.

“It is an offence to use an airgun in a public space and, in addition, all species of gull are protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981.

“We will be vigilant about this and will be patrolling the area in unmarked vehicles.”

Anyone with any information about the incidents should contact PC Harvey on 101.

The Police will do nothing as usual. Sussex Police respond to the slaughter of defenseless baby Gulls is to protect the criminal involved in the slaughter by prosecuting me for trying to stop him. A PCSO told me that "nuisance" Gulls who kept people awake should be killed. My complaint was buried.I had warned the police that this criminal planned to slaughter the baby Gulls. They ignored my letter. A Sargeant lied to conceal the fact that she had ignored my letter. When I complained a lying inspector covered up the police complicity in the slaughter. To those in Cornwall and elsewhere who love Gulls is not to trust the Police. They are corrupt and incompetent.

Whether you like or dislike seagulls this was an act of cruelty and the culprit should be punished accordingly before he/she goes on to shoot at people.
