FILM-LOVERS with a need for speed are being given the opportunity to watch Top Gun at Newquay Cornwall airport.

Event Cornwall and Skylight Cinema are working together for the second consecutive year in conjunction with Skybus and Newquay Cornwall airport as part of the Outdoor Screenings Season.

The 1986 film, which brought Tom Cruise to fame and was directed by the late Tony Scott, will be screened tomorrow night.

The venue for this aviation-filled film, which is being sponsored by Truro-based REG Windpower, is in a hangar alongside a Skybus aircraft.

Skylight's Toby Budd said: "We're very excited to be working again with Skybus and Newquay Cornwall airport to screen Top Gun. It was really sad to hear of the recent death of Tony Scott, but I hope the film being screened in this unique surrounding will help enhance one of this great director's most popular films."

It is the second year the film is showing in the location following its successful sell-out showing last year.

Shelley Fletcher, interim marketing manager for Skybus and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, said: "Our Skybus hangar is a unique environment in which to watch a film and I am sure anyone coming along will have a great experience."

Gates open at 8pm with the film starting at 9pm.

Tickets are available through Hall for Cornwall – it is advised to book early to avoid disappointment. Sales close on Friday lunchtime.

Photo ID is required due to the airport location. Names of ticket-holders must be produced when purchasing the tickets as Newquay Cornwall airport require them in advance.

Toby added: "We always advise people to wrap up warm, but we want them to come in fancy dress to enhance the evening. This can include bomber jackets, aviators or a flight suit. People also need to bring your own seats, perhaps an ejector one if they have it, for this one of a kind experience."

Tickets cost £9, concessions £7. Call Hall for Cornwall Box Office on 01872 262466 or visit their webpage www.hallforcornwall.co.uk
