Kids' charity Action for Children wants children’s centres, nurseries and under-5s groups in Penzance and St Ives to host a ‘Giant Wiggle’ on The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day.
The classic children’s book was first published 45 years ago and has sold 125 million copies worldwide.
Now March 20 has been designated The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day and Action for Children want to use it to highlight issues of neglect and mistreatment of vulnerable children.
The day, celebrated annually, marks the start of the 45th anniversary celebration of the UK’s most read children’s book, and 2014 marks Action for Children’s 145th year.
The event will bring together under-5s to wiggle along in giant caterpillar conga lines, encourage them to help others, and open up their imaginations through storytelling and creative activities.
Jamie Lee, fundraiser at Action for Children, said: “By hosting a sponsored Giant Wiggle at your centre you will be helping us continue to support vulnerable children, young people and families in the heart of communities across Cornwall, and the UK.
“If you would like to join in the celebrations on March 20 and organise a Giant Wiggle at your local children’s centre or nursery, then please get in touch and we’ll send you everything you need.”
