As winter temperatures plummet a Cornish company has come up with a way of providing free energy to those in need.

Demand at foodbanks across Cornwall has rocketed and now a firewood company has come up with a similar scheme.

Cornish Firewood from Blackwater has launched its woodbank project to offer free wood fuel to the sick, the elderly and people on benefits.

Lisa Dell from Cornish Firewood said: “We know people are having trouble with energy prices rising.

“Some customers are facing the dilemma of heating or eating. There are so many people out there who are working but are still struggling.”

When they place an order customers are invited to donate a bag of firewood to the woodbank. Cornish Firewood then puts the bags together and donates them to those in need.

The company will look at the success of the scheme locally and consider teaming up with other firewood suppliers to introduce the scheme to other areas.

"As winter temperatures plummet".....what? It's currently 13degC in Truro, and remarkably mild across all the South-West. Please lay off the hyperbole.
