Poole Town 1 Truro City 0

There was not fairytale start for new City player manager Steve Tully as he saw his side edged out by high flying Poole.

The White Tigers went down to the only goal of the game scored after 16 minutes by Carl Preston, who hammered the ball home when City failed to clear the ball.

The visitors had their chances of a point, with home keeper Dan Thomas giving a man of the match performance, making several crucial saves.

And Tully, who was unable to play because of injury, took plenty of positives from the match and said after the game he that was looking forward to having a full week of training with the players after only being appointed on Thursday following the sacking of Steve Massey.

"I said to the lads in there that we are that close to being a good team. We have been saying it all season about giving away sloppy goals and it was disappointing no one took responsibility.

"But we have to take that performance into next week and finish the season on a high. It is is all about momentum. They worked their socks off. Next week we will be better again."

Tully gave debuts to Torquay United youngsters right back Mickey Purcell and striker Monty Berrow, while Grant Fisher returned in goal and Warren Daw came in at left back.

City began brightly enough, with Ben Watson looking dangerous, but Preston's goal knocked them back and they soon lost Watson with a calf problem to be replaced by Liam Eddy.

City though continued to pose a threat, with Thomas saving first from Berrow and then Eddy's follow up.

After the break City probed for an equaliser as they won a number of dangerous free kicks and it took a superb save by Thomas, who had earlier been perhaps fortunate to escape with just a yellow card after bringing down Eddy, to deny Jordan Copp a late equaliser with a deflected shot.

Poole also had their moments, with both Michael Charles and Preston heading over.

But there was no further scoring, despite a frantic finale, as City slipped to their third successive defeat and stay 19th in the Calor League premier division.
