“The true cost of the Tory led coalition. Latest food bank figures released:

During 2012, almost 500 meals a day were handed out by the charitable food banks in Cornwall.

In all fourteen food bank organisations gave out 178,517 meals during 2012.

The highest number of meals were distributed in Camborne/Redruth, where 46,968 meals were distributed, followed by Launceston, Truro, Liskeard and Looe at around 9,000 each.

Bob Girvan from the Truro service said: "Some people will decide - 'Do I heat or do I eat?' and in the end they decide they will pay to get the heat and come to us to get the food because they couldn't afford both and they didn't want to get into stealing.

"If your shopping bill starts to be another £3 or £4 more on a weekly basis people are not going to be able to afford it. There's an awful lot of people who've got pride, do not want to get into debt. They will pay their bills but will go without."

All featured on Pirate FM radio today. The food banks - a sad sign of the Tory led Westminster Government. Far away and out of touch, you couldn't Big_ger make them up!”

Organisers have said they fear that number is set to rocket in 2013! Thankyou Westminster Tories. We are so grateful to you for record levels of poverty! Time for a change. Time for Mebyon Kernow.

This is a monumental disgrace and if anyone were thinking of voting Conservative they should study these figures and consider them. There is no need for this at all and the Government have absolutely mismanaged taxation and the economy. The problem is that they just don't see these things in their ivory towers way up there in London. The only way to shock them is to vote for a difference and send a clear message to them. No to nuclear missiles, yes to food and a decent social security system.
