A GROUP of politically-minded youngsters have met a local MP to discuss ideas for their trip to France.

The youngsters from DCH's Truro and Carn Brea foyers sat down with Sarah Newton to talk about their political views prior to their trip to a youth democracy festival in Brest.

The Your Hope event focuses on education, housing and the importance of voting across Europe.

Conservative Mrs Newton said: "It was a pleasure to meet with the young people and to discuss a range of matters relating to our democracy with them.

"Their enthusiasm about politics and desire to share their ideas were a delight to see and I wish them the best of luck as they take part in the Your Hope festival."

Kirsty Eldridge, from Truro foyer, who will be travelling to France, said: "I thought the visit to speak to Sarah Newton MP was really interesting.

"We found out lots of things including how we make laws in the UK and it was really helpful to find out about our benefit system and how it's different in the EU.

"Sarah's answers will really help when we visit the Your Hope festival and I'm really looking forward to the visit to France and meeting young people from France, Spain and Finland."
