A Cornwall youngster was a part of a team voted Yachts & Yachting 2014 Young Sailors Of The Year.

Benno Marstaller, aged 13, from Mylor Bridge, was a member of the Great Britain Optimist squad which won the first ever Optimist British medal in 51 editions of the World Team Racing Championships at Riva del Garda, Italy, in the summer.

A student at Penryn College, Benno sails for Restronguet SC and Mylor YC and is coached locally by Dr Phil Slater and Ed Shelton, former coaches of Sir Ben Ainslie.

At the age of ten, he was the youngest ever sailor selected for a Great Britain national sailing squad and was also member of the Great Britain Europeans’ team in 2012.

He was then chosen for the GB Worlds Optimist team in 2013.
