Bodmin Town 6 Liskeard Athletic 1

Chris Wright helped himself to four goals as Bodmin swept aside bottom of the table Liskeard to move up to second in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division.

On a Priory Park pitch which played remarkably well in view of the amount of rain it has soaked up recently, Bodmin never looked back after Wright had given them a seventh minute lead, heading in Jimmy Alexander’s corner.

Alexander then turned scorer after 23 minutes, curling a delightful free kick past Liskeard keeper Adam Fuller into the top corner, and it was 3-0 on the half hour as Wright finished off after being played through by Danny O’Hagan.

Wright completed his hat trick six minutes before half-time after good work by Sam Matthews and O’Hagan, who made it 5-0 six minutes into the second half.

To their credit Liskeard’s young side never let their heads drop and after Sam Gilbert reduced the arrears with a superb left foot shot from 25 yards, the Blues gave as good as they got in the final half hour.

With a little more belief in themselves Liskeard might have forced another goal but it was the home side who completed the scoring eight minutes from time with Wright firing home from 15 yards.

Bodmin were pleased to be able to play the game, with their FA Carlsberg Vase fourth round tie at Brightlingsea Regent only ten days away.

But although they scored six goals, they were certainly not at their best and will have to play much better than this against the Essex-based team.
