An 81-year-old woman has died and a passenger remains in a serious condition following a crash on the A30 on Friday afternoon.

The road was closed for more than six hours after a Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Astra collided at Loggans Moor, near Hayle, shortly after 2pm.

Firefighters cut two casualties free from the wreckage and Cornwall’s Air Ambulance landed on the carriageway to airlift one of the casualties to hospital.

The female driver of one of the vehicles, an 81-year-old from Essex, died following the collision. Her husband remains in a ‘serious’ condition at the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.

The occupants of the second vehicle involved have been released from hospital after receiving treatment for their injuries.

Am I correct in believing there are a high number of serious crashes on this stretch of road? If so, maybe the police investigators should be looking at the road layout rather than always trying to find someone to prosecute in order to tick the right boxes.

A single lane stretch of carriageway where people think they can overtake but it is highly dangerous.

Just a minor point, the given location is wrong. The accident was not at Loggans Moor but on the Hayle Bypass, between the Wheal Alfred Road and Strawberry Lane bridges, close to Hayle Football Club.
