A woman has been airlifted to hospital tonight with a head injury after an accident at Whitsand Bay.

Looe Lifeboat was called out to Sharrow Point at 5.45pm to assist the casualty until an RNAS helicopter arrived at the scene.

A spokesman for Brixham Coastguard said it is believed the woman had a fall and sustained a slight head injury.

He added that the incident had been dealt with and the lifeguard crew had stepped down.

A volunteer RNLI crewman had to swim ashore to help an injured woman after a lifeboat was stopped from landing by a huge swell in the sea. Looe lifeboat volunteer Ben Crabb swam 50m to the beach at Tregantle in Whitsand Bay on Sunday evening. The woman, who was slipping in and out of consciousness after hitting her head, had been cut off by the tide along with two friends and three dogs. An RNAS Culdrose helicopter crew rescued the group. Come on TIC keep up!
