A woman has died following a serious incident on the A39 near Bude this morning.
The single vehicle crash happened at 1am just north of Marhamchurch.
The female driver of the car was in her mid-20s and believed to be from the Holsworthy area of Devon.
Emergency services arrived at the scene early this morning and cut the casualty from the vehicle.
A police spokeswoman said the car left the road and was discovered on its roof in a field.
She confirmed that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road is now closed in both directions between the B3236 Buckleigh Road junction in Bideford and the Stone Hill junction in Bude while police conduct accident investigation work.
A diversion is in place at the A388 to Holsworthy, A3072 to Hatherleigh and the B386 to Bideford.
