A COLLIE dog was rescued by firefighters and coastguards yesterday afternoon after it became trapped between rocks near Looe.

The adventurous pooch was so firmly wedged in that fire crews had to use specialist crash rescue equipment to shift the rocks.

It had got stuck among the sea defences below Brenton Road, Downderry, at around 1.50pm.

A fire service spokesman said: “Fire Control mobilised an appliance from Looe Community Fire Station. The Coastguard were already on scene and needed help with a dog that had fallen between rocks and was trapped in a confined space.

“The collie dog was trapped 6 foot down amongst the sea defences and the fire crew used crash rescue equipment to move some large rocks. The dog was released safe and well and returned to its owner.”
