THIS is the touching moment that Sija the seal chose the name for her new pup.
Like a torpedo, she swam straight for the name ‘Bo’, which had been draw on the side of a buoy and held by staff at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek.
The sanctuary ran a competition with the West Briton to come up with possible names.
The final three possibilities were Ronan, chosen by Ronan Johnston of Constantine, Fin, chosen by Finley Collins of Flushing and the eventual winner Bo, chosen by Mollie Browning of Penryn.
The nominees were invited to the naming ceremony and meet the staff and seals for themselves.
Little baby Bo had been born at the sanctuary in the summer, much to the surprise of staff.
Although Sija shared a pool with a male going by the name of Babyface, he was getting on a bit at 36 – which is around 80 in human years.
On the day, Sija did not hesitate and, after being rewarded with a fish, was soon back by Bo’s side, who was also given a fish too.
