This is the moment a powerful storm surge washed into the beachside car park in Perranporth with the connecting bridge barely visible through the whitewash.

The video was shot yesterday morning at around 7.40am, around an hour before high tide was due to hit.

An Atlantic depression coupled with strong winds, is generating huge tidal swells across Cornwall.

The sand surrounding The Watering Hole, on Perranporth’s beach, has been compacted forming a six foot edge surrounding the restaurant.

Skip to 4 minutes 42 seconds in the video to see the full force of the huge surge.

Monster waves are expected to batter the Cornish coast later today.
