Dramatic video footage has been released of the rescue of six French fishermen from their stricken trawler this weekend.

The ship, Le Sillon, was damaged by the huge waves on Saturday afternoon and left drifting without power off Trevose Head.

The all-weather lifeboat from Padstow attended the scene, and a rescue helisopter from RNAS Culdrose was scrambled.

The six crew were forced to dive into the sea after it proved impossible to pick them up off the deck in such treacherous conditions.

I watched the storm at Land's End, and it was the roughest sea I've ever seen in my life and hellishly windy. I'd have said it would be certain death to be out there in a boat - and flying a helicopter impossible. Amazing stuff - true heroes!
