Television star Martin Clunes arrived in style on a shoot at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
The Doc Martin actor clambered out of the back of a police Landrover before rushing into the Princess Alexandra wing.
Patients, staff and visitors were marshalled out of the way as the television crew took over the entrance to the wing which houses the maternity and neo-natal wards.
Nurses Abi Omlo and Athena La Roche were thrilled to see Mr Clunes in the flesh and grabbed the star for a quick photograph.
Ms La Roche said: "It was great to meet him, he's not only very funny but very friendly and polite too."
The Doc Martin series has millions of fans and attracts hordes of tourists to the North coast fishing village of Port Isaac where it is filmed.
A spokesman for the hospital said: "We've been delighted to welcome the Doc Martin team back to the Royal Cornwall Hospital as they film for the new series due to go out later this year.
"A handful of our staff have taken holiday to be extras for the day and others are enjoying something a bit different happening on site.
"Needless to say we are making every effort not to inconvenience any patients or visitors, many of whom are stopping to watch and take pictures of their own."
