This is the moment a CCTV camera mounted outside a man’s house in Hayle apparently captures a car crashing into his parked van in the middle of the night.
Dale Jackson, 44, installed CCTV cameras on the outside of his house on St John’s Street two years ago after several incidents of criminal damage in the area, he said.
And two nights ago, those cameras appeared to capture a car smashing directly into his van in the narrow street and then being driven off.
Mr Jackson, who also runs Cornwall Coastal Campers, said he knew nothing about the incident until a neighbour knocked on his door at 8.30am yesterday morning to tell him his van had been damaged.
He looked back on his camera and discovered the footage. He says his cameras suggested the vehicle had a black bonnet and the driver had dropped a blonde girl off nearby shortly before the incident.
Mr Jackson posted the video on Facebook last night and within half an hour, he had been contacted by a friend to say they had spotted a car matching the description in Marazion that morning. By this morning, the video had been watched almost 2,000 times.
Mr Jackson told The Cornishman: “He has dropped somebody off, hit my car and disappeared. Somebody somewhere knows whose car that is, because it is a distinctive car.
“I am now off work with no van. I have CCTV on my house because there is so much trouble in this street.”
Mr Jackson has reported the incident to police, who said they would send the surveillance footage to Plymouth to be analysed and would get back to him.
Police were unavailable for comment this morning.
