Veryan 3 Pensilva 2
Underdogs Veryan are through to the Cornwall Junior Cup final on Easter Monday after beating Pensilva in an entertaining east section final at Priory Park, Bodmin.
The JJ Jones Builders Duchy League division four leaders made the perfect start by taking the lead after only two minutes through an own goal after a goalmouth scramble.
It was 2-0 in the 15th minute when man of the match Craig Phillips drilled in a shot from an angle and Veryan looked well on their way to victory.
But Pensilva, leaders of the Duchy League’s premier division, reduced the arrears in the 25th minute with a goal from Jamie Page and they also hit the bar before half-time as they searched for an equaliser.
But the game was all square early in the second half when Jonny Philby scored Pensilva’s second goal and with more than half an hour left it was all to play for.
And Veryan clinched what turned out to be the winner when a shot from Olly Young deflected off a defender and looped towards the net, with the Pensilva goalkeeper failing in his attempts to keep the ball out.
In the final on April 21, Veryan will face the winners of Wednesday night’s west section final between Helston Reserves and Chacewater at Porthleven.
