Truro were keen to continue their excellent pre-Christmas form and make it five wins on the trot in Tribute Western Counties West and they achieved it, scoring five excellent tries, reports Bill Hooper from St Clements Hill.

It was a victory that will have pleased former Redruth prop Darren Jacques who was watching his potential new team mates from the sidelines prior to signing for the city club.

Early possession saw Truro get off to a great start with No. 8 Adam Gayton crossing for their opening try with barely five minutes on the clock.

Truro maintained their early dominance and were rewarded with a second try scored by winger Luke Tidball in the scoreboard corner just four minutes later.

Fly-half Jake Champion kicked a good conversion in the difficult conditions to extend the lead to 12-0.

Okehampton were forced to defend for long periods as the half wore on, however Truro saw a few chances to increase their lead go begging.

The Oaks were reduced to fourteen men when No.8 Simon Cox was sin-binned just past the half-hour mark the victim of his side’s persistent infringing, which led to a couple of dust ups among the forwards.

Truro took advantage scoring their third try through flanker Ashley Riches to make the half-time score 17-0.

Soon after half-time they had the try scoring bonus point wrapped up when hooker Ben Teasdale scored following a great burst from man-of-the-match Gayton.

Champion then made the most of a dreadful error by the Okehampton scrum-half Carl Pointon at a scrum near the visitor’s line to pounce and score Truro’s fifth try to which he added the conversion.

Okehampton rallied with a couple of late tries to bring a measure of respectability to the final score-line.

Garry Sizmur scored the first following a good move. Jordan Petherbridge added the extras.

Referee then awarded the Oaks a penalty-try as they drove the Truro pack towards their own line with almost the final play of the game, Carl Poynton kicked the conversion to give the Devonians some pride for their return up the A30.
