Hundreds turned out to watch the Mayor of Truro judge and award prizes at the city’s Victorian Christmas Market.

An air of fierce competition was present in the large marque on Lemon Quay yesterday as stall-holders pitted their festive decorations and Victorian costumes against one another.

Now in it’s ninth year, the annual Truro Victorian Christmas Market provides artisan traders from across the country a prominent place to promote their products.

John Tamblyn, Mayor of Truro, spent more than two hours assessing and placing the winners of the two categories, best decorated stall and best dressed trader.

Siblings Sarah and Jacob Watkins from Nature kitchen scooped the top spot for their costumes with Lisa Willette from Modello jewellery and Jeremey Goode from X Matrix being placed in second and third place respectively.

Best decorated stall went to Ashley Allen of Liquorice world with Claire Wilcox of Paul Wilcox Wood placed a close second and Wendy O'Donnell and Mark Wash from Trecanna nursery coming in third.

Martyn Davies, from event organisers Deborah Matyn Events Ltd , said: “I believe that it went really well yesterday and most of my exhibitors have been saying to me that their takings were double what they were this time last year.”

The winners of both categories were each given a £75 Marks and Spenser hamper, with second and third place taking home Marks and Spenser vouchers.

Truro’s Victorian Christmas Market will remain on Lemon Quay until Sunday.
