At around 8am this morning emergency operators received a call from Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, saying that fire alarms in the building were sounding.
One appliance with five firefighters from Truro was mobilised to the hospital. Crews investigated the cause of the alarms and at found a small fire in an electrical room on the ground floor of the tower block. A second appliance from Truro, with five firefighters, was mobilised to the scene. Initially crews used a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire, then three carbon dioxide extinguishers were deployed to put it out.
The electrical room involved was on the ground floor of the five-storey tower block at RCH Treliske. An on-site electrician isolated the electrics to the tower block and fire crews investigated floors one to five, investigating any potential fire compartments. After investigation it has been established that the fire was confined to the ground floor of the tower block.
Fire crews remain on scene at this time and the incident has now officially been handed over to staff at RCH Treliske.
