A TRIAL expansion of the minor X-ray service in Cornwall has begun in an attempt to ease pressure on the duchy's main emergency department at Truro.

Patients seeking an X-ray for minor injury were able to do so at St Austell Community Hospital, as well as Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske.

It was hoped that the expansion would reduce waiting times at Treliske and therefore patients would be able to get treated more quickly.

The service is also available at Newquay Community Hospital, from 1pm to 5pm, and then at the same time this Saturday at Camborne and Redruth Community Hospital.

Consultant Andy Virr said: "If minor injury patients seek medical attention at one of the minor injury units with X-ray cover, patients at both minor injuries and the emergency department will have less waiting time and be able to get treated more quickly."
