Firefighters in Falmouth came to the rescue of a trapped seagull resulting in Church Street being closed off to traffic.

The bird ran into difficulty this afternoon when it became tangled in a fishing net above the Animal Surf Shop.

Karen Evans who was working at nearby Vision Express said: “The street was closed to traffic for around 40 minutes.

“One fire appliance came to the scene and five firefighters climbed ladders and successfully cut the seagull free.”

The RSPCA were also in attendance to ensure that the bird was freed safely.

Rosie Hellier, a student who lives on the street, said: "I was just leaning out of my flat window on the high street.

"At first I thought it was a cat stuck on the roof but then I heard people saying a seagull was stuck in netting and then they shut the street off to traffic so that the firemen could free the bird. “
