A daring thief rode out of a store on a stolen bicycle with staff in hot pursuit in Truro this afternoon.
A man cycled at speed through the doors of the Halfords store on St Austell Street and took off down the road on the women’s bicycle.
Staff members tried to follow the man and raised the alarm but the pedal-powered thief beat them for pace.
West Briton photographer Jon Jacobs was in the car park at Halfords when he witnessed the man speeding out of the shop shortly before 2pm.
He said: “I saw a bike whizz out the front door then I saw four members of staff running out after him.
“They realised they wouldn’t be able to catch him and went back inside.
“I just assumed it was a customer who had had repairs done. It was only when the guys started shouting at him that I realised he had nicked it.”
Police said a man rode off from the store on a woman’s white mountain bike worth approximately £250.
The thief was described as about 40 years old, around 5ft 10ins tall and wearing a dark grey jacket with a cream stripe and black writing on it.
