A PROJECT designed to help more local people get into sport has been given a cash boost of £185,000.
Active Cornwall, which is run by Tempus Leisure, is one of 36 UK projects to receive a share of £5.9 million National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Community Sport Activation Fund.
The funding will allow Tempus Leisure to encourage more people to try a new sport.
James Clarke, senior community leisure officer for Tempus Leisure, said: “The award from Sport England for the Active project is fantastic news for the people of Cornwall.
“The project will help break down barriers that people living in Cornwall have to accessing sport and physical activity.”
The scheme will create jobs for community sports activators who will act as a link between the leisure facilities, national governing sports bodies, activity providers and communities.
The activators will also work closely with Cornwall Sports Partnership to promote the benefits of sport and physical activity to individuals and communities.
The project starts in the New Year and Tempus Leisure, a charity which provides leisure services on behalf of Cornwall Council, would like to hear from any community groups which would like to be involved.
