St Blazey 1, Godolphin Atlantic 0

George Swain’s second half strike was enough to clinch St Blazey their place in the semi-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup following a pulsating encounter at Blaise Park.

Godolphin felt heavily aggrieved that Swain’s 50th minute strike was allowed to stand after St Blazey striker Lewis Coombes appeared to handle the ball in the build up to the midfielder’s superb winner.

In an end to end quarter-final cup tie both sides created numerous chances, with Godolphin particularly wasteful in front of goal.

And it was Swain’s brilliant finish in the opening minutes of the second half which proved decisive. There were strong claims for handball on the edge of the Godolphin penalty area as Coombes controlled, and as the ball was laid off to Swain he hit a sublime effort into the top corner.

Godolphin piled on the pressure in the closing stages, but St Blazey stood firm to book their place in the last four.
