Surf Life Saving Clubs from across the county came together at the weekend to test out the latest rescue boats.
The Inshore Rescue Boat Taster Day gave club members from Hayle, Polzeath, Newquay and Perranporth a chance to check out the small inflatable craft which has been specifically designed to operate in a heavy surf zone.
Modifications to the boat include a protected propeller, foot straps on the floor and a flexible fuel tank, so the boat can withstand harsher conditions.
Dave Parker, club captain at Hayle Surf Life Saving Club, said: “With its size, agility and speed, it handles most swells thrown at it, making it an excellent craft for getting to swimmers in difficulties.”
Members were given a basic introduction to the 3.8mm boat, including how to strip it down and rebuild it, before getting out on the water to practise launch and recovery, driving in the surf, how to get a casualty on board and how to deal with engine failure.
