SUPER Saturday's sporting events were not just reserved for the Olympics, as people piled onto the quay for the Point and Penpol Regatta.

The afternoon saw children's sports on the village green while the creek filled with the rising tide.

The Point and Penpol Women's Institute served their regatta teas to spectators and competitors on Point Quay, raising £1,200 for the event.

Despite the poor weather forecast and the diversion of the Olympic Games, 51 boats and crews enjoyed challenging and exciting racing in the gusty southerly wind.

Charles Warren, who has organised the event for 40 years, thanked Restronguet Sailing Club and Mylor Sailing School for providing rescue cover for the event.

A congregation of more than 120 people enjoyed an inspirational open-air service led by Roger Bush, currently Archdeacon of Cornwall and Dean of Truro Cathedral designate.

The ecumenical service held on Point Quay was attended by Christians from churches across the Feock parish as part of the Point and Penpol Regatta weekend.

A band of young musicians provided music and a collection, in aid of the Falmouth branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, raised £426.
