A ST Keverne farmer was left stunned when one of his sheep gave birth to four lambs.

The quadruplets arrived on February 4 with John Tripconey having to deliver two lambs himself.

He said: "Quadruplet lambs do happen but it is very rare, you only really hear about one or two cases a year.

"I've had triplets before but never quadruplets so you can imagine my surprise when they came along.

"The sheep gave birth to the first one, I delivered the second and again the ewe naturally gave birth to the third.

"I then left the room expecting her to be all done and I couldn't believe it when I returned to see another one popping out, which I then delivered."

The baby lambs arrived on time and are all doing well.

Mr Tripconey has been farming for 17 years and has 350 cattle and about 160 sheep on his farm.
