A HUNDRED years ago they were a common sight scullying between boat and shore in St Ives harbour.
In the last few years they have been resurrected by the St Ives Jumbo Association alongside the fishing boats they served.
Now the classic St Ives punt is up for a national award.
The association’s replica of a St Ives punt has been shortlisted in the prestigious Classic Boat Awards for 2014.
The punt has been used as part of a drive to resurrect St Ives’ maritime heritage by the town’s Jonny Nance and the group that he kickstarted with the resurrection of the beautiful St Ives jumbos.
Mr Nance said: “Although once a proud maritime community, it's been a long time since St Ives has made waves on an international maritime stage. This is long overdue and would complement the image of the town.
“Here is our opportunity. With your help we could do it!”
Mr Nance is urging people to vote for the punt online to help secure an award.
