TALENTED young Truro fencer William Deary has received another major boost as he continues his climb to the top of the sport.
The 15-year-old, who is ranked No 1 in Great Britain in the U17 Men's Sabre, has been assigned a British sporting legend as his one-to-one mentor from the Jaguar Academy of Sport.
It has been a great year for William. He is now ranked third in the Men's Sabre U20, number one at U17 level and 13th in Europe overall.
He has been a model Rising Star this year and has taken full advantage of the Mentoring and Education Programme (MEP) delivered by Kelly Holmes Education.
William has attended various workshops meeting a vast selection of Jaguar Academy of Sport Patrons and Ambassadors including David Beckham, Dame Kelly Holmes and Jessica Ennis.
These inspirational figures and the support they have provided have helped William continue his reign as British champion for the third time and finish sixth out of 178 fencers at the Godollo Cadet International sabre event in Hungary.
William said: "I'm delighted to have won this award. To be chosen as a Rising Star back in April was amazing, but to win an award is something else.
"I've loved being part of the Academy this year and my highlight has to be meeting all the Patrons including David Beckham.
"The Q&A with them all was truly inspirational and something I will never forget.
"I look forward to finding out who my one-to-one mentor is and receiving even more support."
