THE chairman of a group which has helped transform Helston has stepped down.
South Kerrier Alliance (SKA) Community Interest Company (CIC) has accepted the resignation of Julian Rand, who wants to devote more time to his business and family.
Vice-chairman and community director Vicki Matthew, SKA's longest-serving member, has agreed to take over as chairman, and thanked Mr Rand for his service.
She said he led SKA to become a CIC, and to deliver projects including the building of The Old Cattle Market, providing office and community space, and a home for Cornwall Council Adult Care and Support's Park View and the newly reopened Helston Farmers' Market.
She added: "Julian's skill, dedication and hard work helped the directors work together as a team to bid for funding and achieve the complex task of putting all the necessary pieces together which resulted in SKA's building being opened.
"Working with Cornwall Council's regeneration officers, Julian also helped to secure funds in a bid by SKA and Lands End Area Forum which financed West Cornwall Local Action Group (WCLAG). This has provided valuable grants to projects and small producers across west Cornwall. SKA was a founder member of WCLAG and Julian became vice chairman and has run several community projects funded by the group."
