ONE of the UK's most talented musicians, be sure to catch RM Hubbert when he appears at Hall For Cornwall next month.
A former member of El Hombre Trajeado, the Glasgow-based guitarist and singer is one of Scotland's most prolific artists – known for his superb musicianship and hauntingly beautiful songs.
With his prowess as a guitarist, matched by his considerable strengths as a composer, Hubbert has earned swathes of critical acclaim, three Peel Sessions – not to mention a strong following of fans who have been blown away by his talent.
Following his time with El Hombre Trajeado, Hubbert took a break from playing live to study a host of different musical forms. Returning to the scene six years ago, his first solo album First & Last was re-released on Scotland's legendary Chemikal Underground Records label in 2011, skilfully blending elements of flamenco and samba with contemporary melodies to create a unique, understated record.
The past few years have seen his profile grow as he has toured extensively and supported artist such as Black Emperor, King Creosote and Alasdair Roberts as well as securing the main support slot for Mogwai's mammoth European tour, Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat's UK and European tour and The Twilight Sad's UK tour.
Already having won a Scottish Album of the Year Award with Thirteen Lost & Found – which was produced by Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand – Hubbert's newly released album, Breaks & Bone, has already achieved critical acclaim and been shortlisted for this year's SAY Award. This stunning new album sees him explore the ideas of letting go of grief, accepting depression and finding new love – alternating between instrumental and vocal tracks, tied together beautifully by Paul Savage's haunting minimalist production.
This latest tour, which has already seen sell-outs in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Bristol, sees Hubbert joined by Green Man festival regular David Thomas Broughton and the exceptional Juice Vocal Ensemble. Don't miss this evening of punchy, melodic and beautiful music to feed the soul.
