A DISUSED mineshaft has opened up at Rosudgeon on the A394 between Helston and Penzance.

A small collapse and hole revealed a 10ft cavity by the side of the main road on Tuesday evening. The incident caused delays for motorists as Cornwall Council contractors fenced off the open shaft and set up traffic controls around a closed-off section of one lane.

By yesterday morning, workmen had opened up the hole and were capping it with concrete.

Traffic lights were still in place but no long delays were being reported as commuters drove to work.
