The second batch of shows lined up for the Fowey Festival of Words and Music have been announced.
The hugely popular annual celebration of literature and sounds eclectic, looks to be continuing along the well-loved route travelled by its previous incarnation – the du Maurier Festival – with another quality line-up that further strengthens its position as one of Cornwall's biggest tourist attractions.
Heading up the second wave of shows and events coming to Fowey in May is a talk by best selling author, Michael Morpurgo.
The author is regarded as something of a national treasure having captivated readers of all ages for many years.
His 2007 novel, 'War Horse', was adapted for the stage and subsequently made into a blockbuster film under the direction of Steven Spielberg.
At the festival, Michael will be talking about his book, 'A Medal For Leroy', a story inspired by the true story of Walter Tull, the first black officer in the British Army.
He will also be mentioning a new book, 'Beauty and the Beast', which is due out in April.
Michael Morpurgo will be appearing on Saturday May 11 at 2pm.
Tickets are priced at £8.50, with a special reduced under 18s price of £5.
On Sunday May 12 at 2.30pm, former MP and London Mayor, Ken Livingstone will be talking about his 30-year political career.
Sometimes controversial but always lively he published his autobiography, 'You Can't Say That', in 2012 and will be leading stimulating, spirited and entertaining conversation at the Fowey festival.
Tickets for this event are priced at £14.50.
Modern folk band, Lau, will bring their own brand of laid back sounds to the stage on Tuesday May 14.
The group have been described as brilliant musicians, thrilling performers and free-thinking visionaries and have also won Radio 2's 'Best Group' category at the Folk Awards three years running.
Tickets to this performance are priced at £17.50.
The final of the new shows announced will feature double MOBO Award-winning saxophonist YolanDa Brown and her band.
Widely regarded as the emerging voice of mainsteam jazz in the UK, YolanDa has toured with The Temptations, Errol Brown, Alexander O'Neal, Courtney Pine, Diana Krall and has also played with Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.
She'll be in town on Friday, May 17, taking to the stage at 8pm.
Tickets are priced at £18.50.
Tickets are available now to Platinum patrons of the festival. For Gold Patrons they'll be available on February 4 with a general sale to the public beginning on February 11.
