THIS fetching picture of Captain the Pirate Pug is proving a popular image as Pirates On the Prom Day approaches.

Well-known portrait artist Julia Ciccone was commissioned to produce the original painting by some regular visitors to west Cornwall, who requested that the Jubilee Pool and prom be used as a backdrop.

"They love the pool and visit it as often as they can when they're down here," she said.

The painting is now available both as a print and as a card at her studio in the Harbour Galleries and Shops on the Wharf in St Ives and, says Julia, is proving to be a winner.

"Pugs are very fashionable at the moment; this picture has become my bestseller and provokes a lot of comment from people browsing in the studio," she said.

If you fancy an unusual memento of the pirate world record attempt, the print is also available in Morrab Studios and as a card, in the Edge Of The World bookshop in Market Jew Street and at the Godolphin Arms, Marazion; alternatively, call Julia on 07813 555754.
