Santa Claus was seen enjoying some down-time in Porthtowan last weekend as he took part in a charity surfing competition.

The festive figure dropped in to ride some waves at the inaugural X-Mass surf contest on Porthtowan beach last Sunday.

The competition, which was described as “a surfing ho-ho-hoedown”, attracted more than 150 enthusiasts from across Cornwall and raised £100 for the DEC Philippines Appeal.

The event also featured a pop-up surfing craft fair showcasing Cornish traders and products.

Demi Taylor, director of event organisers Approaching Lines, said: "The emphasis of the day was about celebrating surfing, showcasing the talented artists and artisans we have right here in Cornwall, and encouraging people to spend their money locally with small businesses."

"We also want to spread some good cheer and good will and were delighted that the event also raised over £100 for the DEC Philippines Appeal.”
