A SURFER brought her own brand of ‘sunshine’ to Newquay’s rainswept Fistral beach yesterday by organising a beach clean event.

The fittingly named Samantha Sunshine decided to rally the troops after noticing a large amount of rubbish on the beach, washed up by the recent storms.

She created a group on Facebook, and was amazed to see around 30 people brave the wind and the rain to help clear the beach.

Surf coach Sam, 24, told the Cornish Guardian: “I run on the beach every day and noticed it was getting really dirty after the big storms; there was plastic all over the beach.

“It was raining on the day so I was amazed by how many people turned up. Some people just saw us doing it and decided to join in.”

The group collected around 30 bags of rubbish in around an hour, she said.

“I’m definitely thinking of doing another one in the future,” Sam said. “I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported it, and who shared it on Facebook.”
