Royal baby name: flurry of last-minute bets on Alexandra and James

Royal baby mania is taking the world by storm, with thousands of bets being placed on the birth of Alexandra or James in the coming days.

With the Duchess of Cambridge now entering what is reportedly her third overdue day, bookies are taking bets on everything from the royal baby’s hair colour to what age he or she will first be photographed visiting a nightclub.

But the question on everyone’s lips is what will the royal baby be named? Punters are anticipating a girl named Alexandra, on at 6/4 at both Ladbrokes and William Hill and 13/8 at Sky Bet.

Charlotte and Victoria follow closely behind – Ladbrokes is offering 6/1 for both while Sky Bet is offering 8/1 and 10/1 respectively.

The chance of Wills and Kate naming a daughter after Princess Di are 8/1, say both Ladbrokes and Sky Bet, while William Hill has the name at 10/1.

Ladbrokes is offering 8/1 for Elizabeth, while Sky Bet has the name at 5/1 and William Hill 7/1.

William Hill on Sunday slashed the price for Isabella from 33/1 to 12/1.

James is leading the way for the boys – on at 6/1 at Ladbrokes and 9/1 at both Sky Bet and William Hill.

George follows closely behind, with both Ladbrokes and Sky Bet offering 10/1 and William Hill 8/1.

Frances and Philip come next at 20/1 at both Ladbrokes and Sky Bet. William Hill has the names at 40/1 and 33/1 respectively.

Other contenders are Alexander, Richard and Thomas.

Or could the Duke and Duchess name a first-born son after Prince Charles? Ladbrokes says the odds are 33/1 and Sky Bet 25/1, while William Hill has the name at 40/1.

The bookies are offering the same odds for a girl being named after Catherine.

But the likelihood of a son being named after dad stands at 50/1 and 66/1 at Ladbrokes and William Hill respectively.

Or perhaps the royal couple, known for breaking with tradition, will stun unlookers by naming a daughter Chardonnay? The name’s on at 250/1 at both Ladbrokes and William Hill.

Ladbrokes is offering 200/1 for Britney, and 500/1 for Janine, while William Hill has Waynetta at 500/1.

Or maybe Wills and Kate will do a Kimye and name a daughter North? The name’s on at 5000/1 at Ladbrokes, as is Psy.

The couple could name a boy after 'The King' Elvis, on at 500/1 at Ladbrokes, or Wayne, on at 250/1 at William Hill.

    At least it's a happy story rather than the doom and gloom of finance, weather or food shortages. I wish them well, it would be nice to have their money.

    Perhaps a boy will be named after Edward VIII: Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
