A RETIRED farmer from Crantock may have died after inadvertently taking too many painkillers, an inquest has heard.
John Eustice, 61, was found in the bathroom of his home on May 28 last year, and had been prescribed tablets to help him deal with a back complaint.
However, a post mortem examination proved inconclusive with a number of alternative causes of death given, including a possible heart attack.
Pathologist Rolfe Hohle told Truro Coroner’s Court yesterday: “It’s not clear what happened.”
The court heard that although Mr Eustice was a heavy drinker, no trace of alcohol had been found in his system.
He had been suffering with a back complaint, on top of mental health conditions, and may have taken too many prescription drugs to combat the pain, it was said. Mr Eustice was last seen alive several days before his body was discovered.
Coroner Emma Carlyon recorded an open verdict. The cause of death was said to be ‘unascertained’.
