ONE of the good things about Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant in Helston's Wendron Street is that customers can be pretty sure of the origins of the fare they order.
It has been seven years since Giuseppe Muscas opened his business after four years working in Cornwall, principally in Marazion and at Clowance, where he was chef at the estate's Italian restaurant.
In 2006 he decided he wanted to run his own business – "after making everyone else rich", he laughs.
The result is the Wendron Street restaurant, offering much more than the cliché of pasta and pizza: "People think it's just that but we do various things, such as steaks and fish dishes," he said.
"Everything's home-made; all the ingredients are fresh."
Mr Muscas even grows his own herbs and vegetables on land he has at Camborne.
The restaurant had 30 covers, but this has been reduced to 26 to create a more spacious dining environment.
It also has special offers on Friday and Saturdays – two meals and two coffees for £10.
Mr Muscas, who is helped by his wife Carol and waitresses Daniella and Lydia, is also pretty forthright about what he believes could be done to help his part of Helston, saying: "I believe Wendron Street has always been let down by organisations of the town."
Yet, he pointed out, it had its fair share of restaurants and other businesses, as well as the Flora Cinema.
