A SPECIALIST Redruth group that supports young mothers is one of five winners of this year’s Guardian Charity Awards.

WILD Young Parents Project fought off competition from over 1,300 entrants all across the nation to be named as one of the winners.

Representatives from the project were handed a £5,000 cash prize and will also receive help with media and business planning.

Jo Davies manager at WILD project said: “The award was given based on our holistic, innovative and outcomes-based approach to working with some of the most vulnerable young families in Cornwall.

“You can read about us in the Guardian, and see our film online.

“Many thanks are due to our dedicated WILD staff team, who each give so much more time, commitment and care to our project than we would ever expect of them.

“Thanks to our great partners, without whom we would only have half a service. Most of all, thanks to the wonderful young families who never fail to inspire us with their courage, dignity and resilience.”

WILD Project aims to provide young mothers and their children with opportunities to develop their skills, improve self-esteem, make positive and healthy choices, protect themselves, participate as equal members of their communities and achieve their potential.
