HARLYN Surf Lifesaving Club is holding the annual Great Atlantic Raft Race at Harlyn Bay on Sunday, August 30.

Four man rafts compete for the Famous Fish Trophy and there will also be a prize for best dressed raft and crew, a raffle, tug of war and duck race on the beach.

The race is open to all and anyone wishing to enter a raft should register on the beach at 2pm and the race will commence at 4pm, conditions permitting. The rafts will race around a short course in the bay.

Entry fee £10 per raft. The only rules are no hulls or no motors.

Club secretary, Julie Smales said: "It's always a fun event and is one of the main fund raisers of the year for the club which provides local children with the opportunity to learn the first steps in surf lifesaving, and as the name suggests the eventual aim is that club members go on to be the surf lifesavers of the future."

Anyone wanting any further information should contact Julie Smales by e-mail on Julie.smales@btinternet.com
