THE owner of a seaside cafe saved a puffin from this week’s storms after it washed up on a Falmouth beach.

Gylly Beach cafe manager Mark Agnew and his girlfriend Charlotte Lodey rescued the sea bird on Tuesday night.

Marine rescue experts belive the bird was washed in from the Isles of Scilly.

“We were just watching the storm from the veranda of the cafe,” said Mr Agnew.

“My girlfriend noticed the bird getting dragged in and out by the sea. It was using its wings to drag itself up the beach.

“It looked quite thin so probably needed a bit of feeding up.”

The couple put the bird in a box with some blankets to ‘de-stress,’ on the advice of Mousehole Bird Hospital, until a member of the RSPCB came to pick it up today.
