A LOCAL animal charity says it's in desperate need of assistance if it is to stay open.

Maria's Animal Shelter in Probus is short of both funds and volunteers and is in serious danger of having to close its doors indefinitely.

Shelter co-ordinator Keeley Allen said: "We desperately need more funding and donations or we may have to close in the very near future. It's becoming a big struggle for us to find the funds for the vet bills and animal food.

"It's a sad and desperate time for us and Maria, myself and the volunteers would be heartbroken to have to close.

"Unfortunately we've already had to say no to taking in more animals."

The shelter specialises in taking in and rehoming animals and educating the public on proper care.

To donate or help out at the shelter call Maria Mulkeen on 01726 882528.
