A PORTUGUESE crew member was rescued from a French fishing vessel in Falmouth harbour on Friday after suffering chest injuries from a cable during bad weather.

Following an aborted attempt to rescue the fisherman from the 25-metre boat Cayman by helicopter, the all-weather lifeboat was launched at 8.35pm by Falmouth coastguard.

The vessel had been fishing in the English Channel and headed for Falmouth Bay to rendezvous with the lifeboat five miles south east of Falmouth.
