A NEW energy efficiency business based at Pool Innovation Centre was launched at the Royal Cornwall Show.

Happy Energy was promoting its new offer of grant funding for households.

It receives the multimillion-pound funding from energy retailers to subsidise the cost of insulation works for householders and to offer free boiler upgrades for eligible households on income-related benefits.

It also offers local schools, colleges and other public sector bodies full energy-saving upgrades with no upfront cost, with the costs of the works being paid through the savings made.

Chief executive Adrian Wright said: "Many people didn't think they would be eligible for a grant or believed that there was nothing that could be done to improve their home's energy efficiency.

"We were surprised by the huge demand we saw at the show for people wishing to take advantage of our grants for solid wall insulation. For certain people who heat their homes with electric or coal, we may even be able to offer the works completely free, a grant of up to £15,000."
