POLICE are investigating after a number of “walk-in” burglaries have taken place across Troon and Beacon.

Officers claim that opportunists are peering in through the windows of homes in the area to check to see if residents are away from the back door.

They then access the garden and get into the home, taking purses, watches and jewellery.

Some of the incidents have taken place while families have sat down to eat dinner.

Police believe someone from the local area could be responsible for the spate of seven similar incidents.

Chris Manuell from Camborne Police said: “We are asking for people to be vigilant and keep the back door to your property locked.

“We understand people have been sitting down to ear a meal when burglars have struck.

“Those with any information should contact Camborne police station by dialling 101.”

I live just down from Beacon and i have had a number of occasions when children have suspiciously knocked at the front door asking for directions to Tesco which is 5 minutes from my house. It has happened several times and they never go in the direction that myself or my partner tell them. They look inside the house, or try to. I am suspicious that they are looking for valuables around to target or whilst someone goes around the back. However my partner and I have always kept back windows and doors locked
